One afternoon a sparrow flew into the office where I work and landed on the boss’s head.

It flew around and landed on various employees.

It seemed calm and reluctant to leave.

That morning I had heard on the radio that scientists had measured the Earth and found that it was
5 mm smaller than the last time they measured it, five years previously.

The idea that this might have been a miscalculation was not addressed.

Later it occurred to me that this small shrinkage may have formed a fissure in the nature of things just large enough for the sparrow to slip into office life.
